Road Materials Laboratory
Laboratory facilities are available in the areas of asphalt micture and asphalt binder measurements. The laboratories are located on the LTH Lund University Campus in the V-building.
The staff available are experts in asphalt mixtures and asphalt binders. The laboratory is annualy used by approximately 400 students.
Equipment
The following equipments are available for measurements for asphalt binder properties:
- Dynamic Shear Rheometer (DSR)
- Rotational Viscometer (Brookfield)
- Ring and Ball (R&B)
- Penetration Test
- Rolling Thin-Film Oven Test (RTFOT)
For measurements for asphalt mixture properties:
- Laboratory Asphalt Mixer
- Marshall Hammer
- Marshall Stability Test
- Marshall Samples for measuring air void content

Contractors in the construction industry and asphalt binder manufacturers who are interested in testing and developing new asphalt mixer products and asphalt binder products in the above areas.
User skill requirements
A basic knowledge of how to use the equipment is expected, but a bried introduction to the equipment is included. Staff members are available for assistance depending on your specific requirements.
Insurance and Safety
The instruments in the laboratory are sensitive and expensive. Therefore, we expect users to have an insurance. Contact us for more information on this.
All users must adhere to all security regulations in the laboratory at all times. Before entering our premises and using the equipment a safety and security agreement must be signed.
